In cooperation with the New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management, and pursuant to this article, the Town of Westfield in the County of Union has established an auxiliary police unit.
The Westfield Auxiliary Police Unit will be as prescribed by the Annotated Statutes of New Jersey, Appendix A., Chapter 9 (National Defense Title) and other related orders and directives of the State Director of Emergency Management, or the Governor of New Jersey, and the State Civil Defense Act (Chapter 251, P.L. 1942, as amended).
As prescribed by these statutes, auxiliary police shall be used, under direct supervision of the Chief of Police, only during a properly declared state of local "emergency or disaster," and during periods of bona fide training in preparation for such occurrences, as approved by the Mayor in cooperation with the municipal emergency management coordinator.
