The position of Animal Control Officer (ACO) is hereby established.
The ACO shall be appointed by the Township Committee and shall be
under the control and direction of the Chief of Police or his/her
designee. The ACO shall be responsible for animal control within the
jurisdiction of the Township and shall enforce and abide by the applicable
provisions of Title 4, Chapter 19, of the New Jersey Revised Statutes,
and any amendments thereof, and the provisions of this chapter.
The position of Municipal Humane Law Enforcement Officer (HLEO)
is hereby established. The HLEO shall be appointed by the Township
Committee, upon the recommendation of the Chief of Police, and shall
be under the jurisdiction of the Township Police Department. The HLEO
shall be responsible for animal welfare within the jurisdiction of
the Township, and shall enforce and abide by the provisions of Title
4, Chapter 22 of the New Jersey Revised Statutes, and any amendments
thereof, and the provisions of this chapter. The HLEO shall be authorized
to investigate and sign complaints, arrest violators, and otherwise
act as an officer for detection, apprehension, and arrest of offenders
against the animal welfare and animal cruelty laws of the state and
ordinances of the Township.
