[Adopted as § 2-9 of the 1980 Code]
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-141, the Tax Collector of the Township shall be an appointed official and not an elected official. This appointment shall be made by the Township Committee.
The term of the Tax Collector shall be for a period of four years commencing the first day of January next following appointment. Any vacancy other than a vacancy due to expiration of term shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term only.

Compensation to be paid the Tax Collector shall be determined by the Township Committee and shall be set forth in the salary ordinance or resolution or by other ordinance of the Township.
Such person as shall hold the position of Tax Collector on the effective date of this article shall remain in office until the full completion of the elected term of such Tax Collector, said term to expire on December 31, 1981; provided, however, that in the event the Tax Collector shall vacate this office prior to the normal expiration thereof, then, in that event, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the Township Committee for the unexpired term only.
