This chapter shall be known and cited as the "Cross-Connection
Control Law of the Town of Macedon, Wayne County, New York."
The purpose of this chapter is to protect the health, safety
and welfare of the residents of the Town of Macedon by establishing
certain regulations to safeguard potable water supplies by preventing
backflow into the public water system of the Town and to further protect
the public water system of the Town from the possibility of contamination
by isolating within its customers' internal distribution systems or
its customers' private water systems such contaminations or pollutants
which could backflow into the public water supply system of the Town.
The regulations contained herein are to be reasonably interpreted,
it being the intent of these regulations to recognize that there are
varying degrees of hazard and to apply the principle that the degree
of protection should be commensurate with the degree of hazard.
When used in this chapter, unless otherwise expressly stated,
the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
- APPROVED WATER SUPPLY
- Any public water supply system approved by the New York State Department of Health.
- AUXILIARY WATER SUPPLY
- Any water supply on or available to the premises other than the approved public water supply.
- BACKFLOW
- The flow of water or other liquids, mixtures or substances into the distributing pipes of the public water supply system from any source other than its intended source.
- BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE
- An acceptable air gap, reduced pressure zone device, double-check
valve assembly or other device or means to prevent backflow or back
siphonage, the latter being backflow resulting from negative pressures
in the distributing pipes of the public water system. Any such device
must appear on the most current version of the list of acceptable
devices utilized by the New York State Department of Health.[Amended 6-25-2020 by L.L. No. 4-2020]
- CROSS-CONNECTIONS
- Any unprotected connection between any part of a water system used or intended to supply water for drinking purposes and any source or system containing water or another substance that is not or cannot be approved as equally safe, wholesome and potable for human consumption.
