[Adopted 7-13-1998 by Res. No. 83-1998]
It has been the policy of Albany County that employees who have 10 or more years of full-time service to Albany County have their medical insurance benefits (including health, dental and prescription coverage) under Article XIII of the Rules and Regulations for Albany County Employees paid for by the County upon leaving County service if they are age-eligible for New York State Employees Retirement System benefits provided in the case of current and future employees that the employee has participated in the County's group medical insurance program or has had other comparable health insurance coverage from the time that they left County service until they became age eligible for New York State Employees Retirement benefits. It is in the interests of the County to provide similar benefits to Albany County employees who have provided longtime service to the County but leave County service prior to being age-eligible for New York State Employees Retirement System benefits.

It shall also be the policy of Albany County that current and former Albany County employees who have 20 or more years of full-time service to Albany County who leave County service prior to being age-eligible for New York State Employees Retirement System benefits shall be permitted to participate in the County's group medical insurance programs, provided that the County's medical insurance providers allow the participation of said employees, and further provided that said employees pay 100% of the contribution towards the costs of said medical insurance until the employee is age-eligible for New York State Employees Retirement System benefits.
