[Ord. No. 54-2015; Ord. No. 14-2016]
A.
Except as otherwise prescribed by the collective bargaining agreement, a member of the Department who is prevented by sickness or any other cause from reporting for duty at police headquarters at any time when required to do so shall immediately, without delay, report or cause to be reported the reason for his/her absence to communications, and a report shall be made by a computer entry. The office of the Chief of Police shall be notified.
B.
Except as otherwise prescribed by the collective bargaining agreement, the Township may require an employee who has been absent in excess of three consecutive days by reason of illness or injury, as a condition of return to duty, to be examined at the Township's expense by a Health Care Professional designated by the Township. Such examination shall establish whether the employee is capable of performing his/her normal duties and that his/her return will not jeopardize the health and welfare of other employees. In any case where the Township believes that an employee has misused sick time, the employer may require medical proof of the illness of the employee and may require the employee to submit to examination by a Health Care Professional designated by the Township.
C.
Except as otherwise prescribed by the collective bargaining agreement, A member of the Department who is taken sick, injured or otherwise disabled while on duty shall report or cause to be reported, in person or by the best available means, such fact and shall request that he/she be relieved from duty. The Chief or, in his/her absence, the senior ranking officer on duty shall then take whatever steps may be necessary to relieve the sick, injured or otherwise disabled member from duty and shall ensure that said member's post of duty is covered as expeditiously as possible.
