No solar panel shall be constructed or located within the zoning
jurisdiction of the City of Ralston unless a permit therefor is approved
and issued by the Building Inspector and is constructed in conformance
with the following requirements:
a. Definitions.
SOLAR PANEL
A device, structure, or part of device or structure which
is used primarily transform solar energy into thermal, chemic or electrical
energy.
b. Lot and Height Requirements. Solar panels shall conform to the required
front, side and rear lot setback requirements except as provided herein:
1. A solar panel which is attached to an integral part of the principal
building may project four feet into the front yard; six feet into
the rear yard; and two feet into the side yard.
2. A solar panel which is free standing may be located only in the required
rear yard provided it is located not less than five feet from the
rear lot line subject to the accessory building setback requirements
on corner lots in the district which it is located. A solar panel
shall not occupy more than 30% of the required rear yard.
The physical structure and connections to existing structures
shall conform to the applicable Ralston Building Codes. A plot plan
drawn to scale with dimensions shall be provided showing the location
of the solar panels and such other information as may be necessary
to provide for the enforcement of this Article.
