There is created by this chapter an Ambulance Corps, whose duty it shall be to operate, maintain and purchase, in the name of the Borough of Lawnside, an ambulance for the protection and benefit and service of the residents of Lawnside.
The Corps shall be staffed by a Commander and by as many members as in the discretion of the Commander shall be necessary for the proper operation and maintenance of the ambulance and the duties of the Corps.
The Commander shall have the authority to appoint each member of the Corps, but only after the names of prospective members are approved by the Borough Council. No person shall be appointed who shall not have first taken an approved first aid course and unless the qualifications of such person to operate an ambulance have been approved by the Borough Council.
The Commander and the Corps shall be permitted and are hereby authorized to solicit contributions from the residents of the Borough of Lawnside for the purposes of purchasing, maintaining and operating the ambulance and other equipment necessary in its functioning. The Borough of Lawnside is hereby empowered and permitted to contribute up to $1,000 annually to help defray the cost, expenses and purchase price of any and all equipment purchased. The sum so contributed shall be at the discretion of the Borough Council but in no event shall ever be more than $1,000 per annum.
