The Mayor shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Village of Carbon Hill. He shall be a citizen of the United States and a qualified elector and shall reside within the corporate limits of the Village. His or her term of office shall be for a period of four years or until a successor is duly elected and qualified.
A. 
The Village Mayor shall preside at the meetings of the Board of Trustees, but shall vote only in case of a tie, when he shall have the casting vote.
B. 
He may release any prisoner imprisoned for violation of any ordinance and shall report such release, with the cause thereof to the Board at its first session thereafter.
C. 
The Mayor shall annually and from time to time give the Board of Trustees information relative to the affairs of the Village and shall recommend for their consideration such measures as he may deem proper and expedient.
D. 
He shall cause to be enforced all ordinances of the Village of Carbon Hill and shall perform such other duties as may be required by law and the ordinances of the said Village.

During the temporary absence or disability of the Mayor the Board of Trustees shall elect one of its members to act as Mayor Pro Tem, who, during such absence or disability, shall exercise the powers of Mayor but shall not be entitled to vote both as Mayor and as Trustee.
Whenever a vacancy shall occur in the office of the Mayor, if the unexpired term shall be less than one year, the Board of Trustees shall elect one of their members to act as Mayor; if the unexpired term shall be one year or over the vacancy shall be filled by an election; and such Mayor shall possess all the rights and powers of the Mayor, until the next regular election for Mayor and until his successor is elected and qualified.

The annual compensation for the Village Mayor of the Village of Carbon Hill is hereby established at $3,600. Said compensation shall be payable to the Village Mayor at $300 on a monthly basis.
