A. 
The Police Department is hereby authorized to employ civilians as clerk-typists to perform administrative support functions, under the command and control of the Chief of Police and under the supervision of the commander of the Administration Bureau, to enhance the services and protection provided by the Department's sworn police officers.
B. 
The number of clerk-typists shall be determined by the Mayor and Council. All clerk-typists shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council, subject to the policies and procedures established in this chapter.
C. 
Clerk-typists shall perform administrative support functions in support of the Department's operations as may be directed by the Chief of Police, the commanding officer of the Administration Bureau or any other sworn officer designated by the Chief of Police. These functions shall include, but not be limited to, typing, filing, answering phones, maintaining records, completing reports, ordering supplies, etc. Clerk-typists shall maintain proper decorum, exercise discretion, and preserve confidentiality in all matters and at all times when performing their functions and duties.
Any and all policies related to personnel matters such as hiring, employment, performance, compensation, benefits, paid leave, conduct, discipline, separation and/or retirement of clerk-typists shall be governed by the Borough of Wood-Ridge Employee Personnel Policy Handbook and the Salary Ordinance adopted annually by the Mayor and Council, the rules and regulations of the Wood-Ridge Police Department and the policies and decisions of the Chief of Police and the Borough Administrator, unless otherwise stipulated in this chapter.
