A There shall be a Community Safety Section within the Civil
Affairs Division consisting of auxiliary police officers, who shall
be under the command and control of the Chief of Police and who shall
report through the chain of command to the commanding officer of their
respective bureau and division as promulgated in this chapter, to
enhance the services and protection provided by the Department's sworn
police officers.
A. The authority and operations of the Community Safety Section and
the appointment, training, deployment and performance of its auxiliary
police officers shall be governed by New Jersey Revised Statutes Appendix
A:9-33 and any and all resulting executive orders of the Governor
of the State of New Jersey, as well as the policies and procedures
established in this chapter and the rules and regulations of the Wood-Ridge
Police Department.
B. The number of auxiliary police officers shall be determined by the
Mayor and Council. All auxiliary police officers shall be appointed
by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council, subject to
the policies and procedures established in this chapter.
To be eligible for appointment, all auxiliary police officers
shall meet the qualifications pursuant to New Jersey Revised Statutes
Appendix A:9-33 as well as the following requirements:
A. Be at least 18 years of age.
B. Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Bergen County.
C. Be able to speak, read and write the English language.
D. Be of good moral character.
E. Be physically and mentally fit.
F. Possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
G. Possess a high school diploma or general equivalency degree.
H. Be able to successfully complete all required pre-appointment and
post-appointment screening, evaluation and training processes.
