Legislative Background: The preamble to the following ordinance reads as follows: Whereas the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is a federally-recognized Tribe so proclaimed May 27, 1980 that retains its inherent right to self-government; and whereas the Tribal governing body had determined that it wishes to exercise the contract option; and whereas the Grand Traverse Band desires to continue to provide health services through a contract with the Indian Health Services; and whereas the scope of the contract is to plan, conduct, and administer the financial assistance for Comprehensive Health Services to include Community Health Representatives, Health Management, and Substance Abuse Services; and whereas the Tribal Chairman or his designee is authorized to negotiate and execute the contract and any amendments thereto; and whereas the authorities granted herein shall be effective until such time as the Tribal Governing Body takes further action by Resolution.
The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Health Services shall be authorized to continue to provide health services.
