The Village Board of the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, pursuant to Article 10, § 10-1000, of the Village Law of the State of New York, hereby establishes a Board of Fire Commissioners in order to provide oversight and promote the effective management of the Village Fire Department.
The Village Board shall exercise all powers relating to Fire Department matters as authorized pursuant to Article 10 of Village Law of the State of New York. Pursuant to Village Law § 10-1000, all powers and authority exercised by, and all actions to be taken by the Board of Fire Commissioners shall be subject to approval by the Village Board.
The nomination of any Chief or Assistant Chief ("Deputy Chief') and the appointment thereof by the Board of Fire Commissioners pursuant to § 10-1012 shall be subject to the approval of the Village Board.
The Board of Fire Commissioners shall consist of three members: the Mayor, one Village Board Member, and one additional member, all of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Village Board. The Mayor shall act as the Chairperson of the Board of Fire Commissioners.
The Fire Chief shall, whenever required by the Board of Fire Commissioners, attend Board meetings to report on the on the condition of the property of the Fire Department and provide such other information respecting the Department as may be required.
Members shall serve on the Board of Fire Commissioners without compensation.
