The Village Board of the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, pursuant to Article 10, § 10-1000, of the Village Law of the State of New York, hereby establishes a Board of Fire Commissioners in order to provide oversight and promote the effective management of the Village Fire Department.
A. 
The Village Board shall exercise all powers relating to Fire Department matters as authorized pursuant to Article 10 of Village Law of the State of New York. Pursuant to Village Law § 10-1000, all powers and authority exercised by, and all actions to be taken by the Board of Fire Commissioners shall be subject to approval by the Village Board.
B. 
The nomination of any Chief or Assistant Chief ("Deputy Chief') and the appointment thereof by the Board of Fire Commissioners pursuant to § 10-1012 shall be subject to the approval of the Village Board.

A. 
The Board of Fire Commissioners shall consist of three members, all of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Village Board. The Village Board shall designate a member to act as the Chairperson of the Board of Fire Commissioners.
B. 
The members shall be residents of the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson and should possess experience in leadership, management, finance, accounting, budgeting, fire and/or rescue services, or such other relevant experience as the Village Board deems appropriate.
C. 
The members of the Board of Fire Commissioners shall be appointed to three-year terms. The initial terms of office shall be staggered such that one Board member's term shall end on the first Monday of the month following the Village general election held after the adoption of this section, and the second and third Board members' terms of office shall end on the first Monday of the month following the second and third Village general elections held after the adoption of this section, respectively.
