The purpose of this article is to permit the Town of Stockport, New York, to change to a single appointed assessor from and after December 31, 2016, pursuant to Section 328 of the Real Property Tax Law of the State of New York.
Pursuant to the authority granted under Section 328 of the Real Property Tax Law, the positions of elected assessors in the Town of Stockport are hereby abolished, effective December 31, 2016, and from and after said date there shall be one appointed assessor for the Town of Stockport.
The term of office of the single appointed assessor shall be six years.
The term or terms of office of all assessors of the Town of Stockport, New York, who are presently in office or in office as of December 31, 2016, shall terminate on December 31, 2016.
All ordinances, local laws, and regulations of the Town of Stockport, New York, in conflict with the provisions of this article are hereby superseded to the extent necessary to give this article full force and effect.
This article takes effect immediately upon filing in the office of the Secretary of State in accordance with Municipal Home Rule Law § 27.
