All fire hydrants installed in the system shall have a 6" mechanical
joint shoe, and a 5.25" nozzle. they shall also be installed with
a mechanical joint valve in front - off of a mechanical joint tee.
All valves and fire hydrants will have minimum of 3' bury when installed,
and be approved by the Water Department Superintendent.
1. All hydrants must be "Traffic Break - A - Way" models.
2. All hydrants shall have sealed oil reservoir, sealed with O-rings
to prevent leakage, and assure positive lubrication of all stem threads
and bearing surfaces each time the hydrant is operated.
3. All hydrants must have at least three outlets, two of which must
not be less than 2.50" inside diameter, and one of which must not
be less than 4.50" inside diameter.
4. All hydrants must have all bronze seat rings with bronze bushing
or drain ring in shoe.
5. All nozzles must be screw in type.
6. All fire hydrants will have National Standard threads.
7. All fire hydrants will be installed in accordance with NFPA 1141,
Ch 8.
8. In addition to NFPA 1141, the City of Weatherford requires there
be a fire hydrant located no further than 100 feet from fire department
connections. However, the distance may be increased up to a maximum
of 200 feet where authorized by the Fire Code Official.
9. All hydrants installed in commercial and industrial areas, will be
connected to water mains of not less than 8", and shall have a spacing
of 300 feet.
10. All hydrants installed in residential areas will be connected to
water mains of not less than 6", and shall have a spacing of 400 feet.
