Police Department.
Effective October 13, 2024, the classifications and the number of positions in each classification for the Police Department are follows:

(b) 
Fire Department.
Effective October 27, 2024, the number of positions in each classification for the Fire Department shall be as follows:

(c) 
Temporary over-hire.
If the Department Head has received written notice of a sworn employee's departure from their Department, they may request, in writing, the City Manger's approval to temporarily over-hire a sworn employee into the lowest/entry level classification in excess of the number of positions authorized in subsections (a) and (b) above, provided the Department must complete all required promotions and return to the authorized maximum staffing level within 45 days of the over-hire.

Editor’s note–Former section 9.11.004 pertaining to educational incentive or certification pay, was repealed and deleted in its entirety by Ordinance CO28-17-03-23-E1 adopted 3/23/17. Prior to the deletion, this section derived from the following: Ordinance CO61-04-10-21-7B adopted 10/21/04 and Ordinance CO03-09-10-29-C1 adopted 10/29/09.
Effective October 1, 2009, the city shall pay the sum of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) per month to each officer who demonstrates proficiency and is certified either in Spanish or sign language (ASL) through a testing process. A committee made up of two (2) city officials and two (2) association members shall establish the standards for eligibility for certification in order to receive the incentive for language skills in Spanish or sign language. An employee who wishes to be certified in Spanish or sign language must pay the initial fee for the certification process. This fee shall be reimbursed to the employee by the city, upon receipt of notice that the appropriate testing organization has granted a certificate of proficiency. An employee shall receive only one incentive payment per month for Spanish or sign language proficiency.

(a) 
Effective March 1, 2016, the City Council authorizes wellness program incentive pay in the amount of $50.00 per month to each sworn member of the Police Department pursuant to General Order 2.12.2 Wellness Program, with the incentives being payable beginning the calendar month following the eligible member’s qualifying assessment score.
(b) 
Only an employee in the Police Department covered by Civil Service, including a probationary Police Officer, is eligible to receive incentive pay pursuant to this section. The Chief of the Department is not eligible for additional compensation.
