The office of city attorney is established as provided for in article
VI, section
1 of the city charter.
(1999 Code, sec. 8.1001)
The city attorney's duties shall include, but shall not be limited
to, the following:
(1) Being
the legal advisor of the mayor, city council, city staff, and any
committee or board of the city, while acting in their official capacities,
upon legal questions touching their official duties, and giving his
opinion upon all legal questions that shall arise under the city government.
(2) Attending,
either in person or by deputy, at each meeting or term of the municipal
court, for the purpose of prosecuting all cases in said court arising
under this Code of Ordinances.
(3) Preparing
and drawing all complaints for offenses cognizable in the municipal
court, and all complaints for misdemeanors against the mayor, city
council, city secretary, or any other officer or agent of said city.
(4) Drawing
and preparing all ordinances, bonds, contracts, agreements, deeds,
and other papers or instruments which may be made or entered into
by the city, or to which the city may be a party.
(5) Performing
other duties mutually agreeable between himself and the city council.
