Editor’s note–Former sections 5.03.002–5.03.003 pertaining to the International Fire Code, 2006 edition and deriving from Ordinance 5539, secs. 1 and 2 adopted by the city on July 7, 2008, was deleted in its entirety by Ordinance 5712 adopted by the city on August 15, 2011. Violations of this article are punishable as provided in section 1.01.009.
The accessways referred to in the fire prevention code shall be identified as “fire lanes”; and when determined by the fire marshal that parking shall be prohibited in such fire lane, appropriate “no parking” signs shall be installed and maintained by the owner of such building.
Any person who shall park a vehicle in a marked fire lane shall be punished as provided in section 1.01.009. Unlawfully parked vehicles may be towed away at the owner’s expense and placed in the police auto pound.
When part of the private road is selected as a fire lane by the fire chief or his authorized representative, it shall be marked along the perimeter with conspicuous signs in accordance with the specifications shown on exhibits 1 and 2 to the legislation from which this section is derived; and where a curb exists, the sign shall have the words “fire lane–no parking” painted:
Constructed in accordance with the specifications set out in exhibits 3 and 4 and shall be surfaced with a material substantial to support any fire department vehicle.
