All abandoned, lost, stolen or recovered property, except for junked or abandoned motor vehicles, will be disposed of in accordance with Vernon's Ann. C.C.P. art. 18.17.

(a) 
Property that may be sold; method of sale.
All abandoned, lost, stolen or recovered property which shall remain unclaimed with the chief of police, or his duly authorized representative, for a period of 90 days, without being claimed or reclaimed by the owners, whether known or not, may be sold by public sale at public auction or by the use of sealed bids. For purposes of this division, property which remains unclaimed at the police department for 90 days as provided in this subsection shall be conclusively presumed to be abandoned.
(b) 
Notice of sale.
Notice of the sale of abandoned, lost, stolen or recovered property shall be given in the following manner:
(1) 
The chief of police, or his duly authorized representative, shall notify the owner of such property, if the owner is in the state and his residence is known, to come forward and pay the charges due.
(2) 
Upon the owner's failure, within 90 days after notice has been given him, to pay such charges, the chief of police, or his duly authorized representative, shall refer such property to the purchasing agent for sale.
(3) 
The purchasing agent shall give 14 days' notice of the time and place of the sale.
(4) 
The purchasing agent shall also post or have posted at or near any regular entrance to the city hall a list of the property to be offered for sale.
