The city secretary shall be selected by the city manager, answerable to the city manager and may be terminated by the city manager, with or without cause. The city secretary shall subscribe to such oaths as may be required by law and post such bonds in such sums as the city council shall direct; the premium on said bond to be paid by the city.

(a) 
The secretary shall perform all of the statutory duties prescribed by law in section 22.073, Local Government Code, Vernon’s Texas Civil Statutes, as amended, and such other duties as may be prescribed from time to time by the city council.
(b) 
The person appointed as city secretary shall be ex officio city treasurer of the city, and the powers and duties of the city treasurer as prescribed in section 22.075, Local Government Code, Vernon’s Texas Civil Statutes, as amended, are hereby conferred on the person holding the office of city secretary.
(c) 
The person appointed as city secretary shall be ex officio clerk of the corporation court or municipal court of the city, and the powers and duties of clerk of said court as prescribed in section 29.010, Local Government Code, Vernon’s Texas Civil Statutes, as amended, are hereby conferred on the person holding the office of city secretary. The city secretary may appoint a deputy court clerk.

Any bond posted by the city secretary as required by section 1.05.041 above shall extend to all the duties and responsibilities imposed by this article and applicable statutes.
