On behalf of the city, the council hereby exercises its option
and elects to have the city and all of the employees of all departments,
except the fire department and police communication operators/911
dispatchers eligible for participation in the Greenville Firemen’s
Relief and Retirement Fund, participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement
System as provided in House Bill 29, chapter 75, page 108, Acts of
the 50th Legislature in 1947, as amended, being V.T.C.A., Government
Code, chapter 851; and all of the benefits and obligations of such
system are hereby accepted.

The city secretary is hereby directed to notify the board of
trustees of the Texas Municipal Retirement System that the city has
elected to participate and have the employees of all departments of
the city except the fire department participate in such system.

Each person who becomes an employee of any participating department
of this city and who is not already a member of the Texas Municipal
Retirement System shall become a member of the system as a condition
of employment, provided such person is then under sixty (60) years
of age.

The city may in the future refuse to add new departments or
new employees to such system, but shall never discontinue as to any
participants.

The city is directed to remit to the board of trustees of the
Texas Municipal Retirement System, at its office in Austin, Texas,
the city’s proper contributions to the system and the amounts
which shall be deducted from the compensation or payroll of employees.

The specific provisions of the Texas Municipal Retirement System,
as adopted and participated in by the city and its employees, are
not included in this division, but they are hereby specifically saved
from repeal and shall be maintained on file in the office of the city
secretary.
