Editor’s note–Printed herein is the charter of the City of Lakeway, Texas, originally adopted on May 5, 1990, and subsequently amended on elections held May 2, 1992, May 7, 1994, August 10, 1996, May 4, 2002, May 13, 2006, May 8, 2010, November 4, 2014, May 5, 2018, November 3, 2020, and May 3, 2025. The charter printed herein has the amendments adopted through May 13, 2006, consolidated in the text without notation. Subsequent amendments to the charter are indicated by a history note following the amended provision. The absence of a history note indicates the material is unchanged from the consolidated charter. Apart from minor nonsubstantive changes in style and formatting, the charter is reproduced as originally adopted. Capitalization, punctuation and grammar have been retained. Obviously misspelled words have been corrected without notation. Material enclosed in brackets has been added for clarification. At an election held on November 4, 2014, by Ordinance 2014-08-18-01, Proposition No. 12, the charter was amended to change references to “he,” “his,” and “him” to “he/she,” “his/her,” and “him/her.” These changes were made without notation where applicable.
PREAMBLE
We, the people of Lakeway, Texas, in order to establish a home rule municipal government that will provide for the future progress of our City, establish and maintain a system of self-government based on sound fiscal and operational methods, insure equal protection and treatment for all persons and secure fully the benefits of our location and environment, do hereby adopt this Home Rule Charter in accordance with the Constitution and statutes of the State of Texas; and we do hereby declare the citizens of the City of Lakeway, Travis County, Texas, residing within the legally established boundaries of said City, to be a political subdivision of the State of Texas incorporated forever under the name of the “City of Lakeway” with such powers, rights and duties as herein provided.
