No person shall be eligible to the office of Councilmember who
is not twenty-five (25) years of age prior to commencing a term of
office, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant and resident
of the City for at least two (2) years next before their election,
and a resident of the ward from which they are elected for at least
six (6) months preceding election; shall remain a resident of their
Ward and a qualified voter during their term of office; nor shall
any person be a candidate for Councilmember, elected a Councilmember,
or hold office as a Councilmember, who is in arrears for any unpaid
City taxes, subject to any City liens or forfeitures, and shall comply
with all provisions of Section 115.306 RSMo., as amended. All members
of the Council shall hold their office for a term of two (2) years.
Before entering upon the discharge of the duties of their office,
each Councilmember shall take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation
before the City Clerk that they possess all the qualifications prescribed
of this City; they will support the Constitution of the United States
and of this State, and this Code and other ordinances of this City,
and that they will faithfully discharge their official duties.
The members of the City Council shall be two (2) in number from
each Ward of the City.
