Violations of this article shall be punished by a fine in accordance with the general penalty provision in section
1.01.009 of this code. Provided, however, that no penalty shall be greater or less than the penalty provided for the same or similar offense under the laws of this state or of the United States. Each day any violation of this article shall continue is a separate offense.

(a) Approval required.
No billboard as hereinafter defined
shall be erected within the corporate limits of the city without the
prior approval of the city council.
(b) Definition.
Billboard is herein defined as any sign
(supported by a post or posts) of a size exceeding ten (10) feet by
twenty (20) feet.
(c) Signs on buildings excepted.
Advertising signs painted
or pasted directly on buildings are expressly excepted from the provisions
of this section; provided, however, that the building upon which the
sign is pasted or painted offers the merchandise or product advertised
thereon for sale to the public therein.

A political message (sign) that is located on private real property
must be removed within seven (7) days following the date of an election.
Failure to remove such message/sign will result in a violation of
the city code and is therefore subject to penalties.
