The International Fire Code, 2018 edition, is hereby adopted and designated as the fire code for the town. A copy of the 2018 edition of the International Fire Code is kept on file in the office of the town secretary for reference and inspection.

(a) 
The zoning board of adjustment shall hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by the building official or any inspector in the enforcement of the code adopted in this article.
(b) 
The zoning board of adjustment may authorize, upon appeal in specific cases, such variances from the terms of the code adopted in this article, only in those codes [cases] wherein variances are authorized, as will not be contrary to the public interest, where, owning to special conditions, a literal enforcement of the provisions of the code will result in unnecessary hardship, and so that the spirit of the code shall be observed and substantial justice done.
(c) 
The zoning board of adjustment shall be construed to be the appeals board in lieu of any such board referred to in the code adopted in this article.
