The materials used shall conform with the standards set forth in the 2015 edition of the International Plumbing Code, unless amended in this article.

Materials other than those listed in the 2015 International Plumbing Code may be permitted upon approval of the building trades and fire code board of appeals.

The use of lead pipes, solder and flux is prohibited when used in the installation or repair of any public water system or any plumbing in a residential or nonresidential water system providing water for human consumption. This prohibition does not apply to leaded joints necessary for repair of cast-iron pipes. For the purpose of this prohibition, the definition of “lead-free” shall be:
