(a) Conditions.
(1) The adoption of a dog or cat from the animal shelter may take place
under the following conditions:
(A) The animal has been classified as “adoptable” by the
animal control officer;
(B) The prospective adopter can meet all of the adoption guidelines as
set forth by the Collin County Humane Society; and
(C) The prospective adopter obtains all necessary vaccinations, registration
and sterilization.
(2) The supervisor of animal control shall refuse to allow a person to
adopt a dog or cat from the animal shelter when the supervisor has
reason to believe that person would be not able to obtain a registration
certificate under this chapter, would not have proper facilities for
care of the animal, wants the animal for purposes of resale or purpose
other than pet ownership, or would not be a suitable owner within
the sole discretion of the supervisor of animal control, or that the
animal would be a hazard to humans or other animals.
(b) Adoption fee and sterilization deposit.
(1) The prospective adopter shall pay the adoption fee of an amount set forth in the fee schedule in appendix
A of this code for a dog, or an amount set forth in the fee schedule in appendix
A of this code for a cat, per animal, plus a sterilization deposit in an amount set forth in the fee schedule in appendix
A of this code for a dog or for a cat, per animal.
(2) Upon proof of vaccination and sterilization, the deposit will be
refunded by the county Humane Society.
