The City Council shall appoint a competent licensed attorney
of recognized ability and he/she shall be known as the City Attorney.
The City Attorney shall serve at the will and pleasure of the City
Council.
The City Attorney shall receive for his/her services such compensation
as may be fixed by the City Council at the time of his/her appointment,
and from time to time as authorized by the City Council.
The City Attorney shall be the legal adviser of, and attorney
for, all of the offices and departments of the City and shall represent
the City in all litigation and legal proceedings, provided, however,
that the Council may retain special counsel at any time it deems appropriate
and necessary. He/She shall review as directed and approve as to form
al documents, contracts, resolutions, ordinances, and legal instruments
in which the City may have an interest. The City Attorney shall perform
other duties prescribed by the Charter, by ordinance or resolution
of the City Council.
