The office of building official is hereby created. The administrative official in charge shall be known as the building official.

(a)
The building official shall not have any interest whatever, directly or indirectly, in the sale or manufacture of any material, process or device entering into or used in connection with building construction, alterations, removal or demolition.
(b)
The building official shall have a minimum of one year's experience as building inspector, or five years of experience in the construction trades and shall have working knowledge of the codes as adopted in this chapter.

The building official or the building official's designee is hereby authorized and directed to enforce all provisions of the codes as adopted in this chapter. When referred to in this chapter, the term "building official" includes the building official's designee.
