Editor’s note–Former division 2, sections 18.03.031–18.03.034 pertaining to the library commission and deriving from Ordinance 2013-21, sec. 3, adopted 8/20/13, was repealed and deleted in its entirety by Ordinance 2016-20, sec. 5, adopted 10/11/16. These provisions can now be found in article 1.02, division 7.
Pursuant to the charter of the city, a department is hereby created within the framework of the governmental organization of the city and the provisions of this enactment.

The city hereby accepts all gifts and donations of books and equipment heretofore made for the city public library, with grateful thanks to the donors both of books and time, and it is ordained that such books and equipment, together with such additions as may be made from time to time, shall constitute and form the books and equipment of the city public library.

The city public library shall be a self-sufficient and self-sustaining entity, as practicable. Funds from the city may be appropriated for its operations; provided, however, that the city may, at its option, provide suitable premises for the city public library to conduct its operations.

(a) 
The city hereby accepts the designation of a community library as authorized by the state library and archives commission pursuant to the authority invested in the commission by the Texas Library Systems Act, also being known as V.T.C.A., Government Code, section 441.121 et seq.
(b) 
Such community library as herein designated shall be a member of the central library system with its major resource center library at Austin, Texas.
