(a) 
Mayor.
No person shall be mayor of the city unless he is at least twenty-five years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the city at the time of and for at least one year next preceding his election. No person shall be elected or appointed to the office of mayor who shall at the time be in arrears for any unpaid city taxes, or any other unpaid bills to the city, or forfeiture, or defalcation in office, and said candidate shall be a qualified voter. No person shall be appointed who has been convicted of or found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony under the laws of the state.
(b) 
Aldermen.
No person shall be an alderman of the city unless he is at least eighteen years of age, a citizen of the United States, an inhabitant and resident of the city for one year next preceding his election, and a resident of the ward from which he is elected. In addition, no person shall be elected or appointed to the office of alderman who shall at the time be in arrears for any unpaid city taxes, or any other bills due to the city, or forfeiture, or defalcation in office, or who is not a qualified voter within the city. No person shall be appointed who has been convicted of or found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony under the laws of the state.
(c) 
Other offices.
No person shall be elected or appointed to any other office within the corporate limits of the city unless said person is a qualified voter under the laws and constitution of this state and the ordinances of the city. No person shall be elected or appointed to any office who shall at the time be in arrears for any unpaid city taxes, or any other bills due to the city, or forfeiture, or defalcation in office, or who is not a resident of the city.

(a) 
Special meeting of board of aldermen.
If a vacancy occurs in any elective office, the mayor, or the person exercising the duties of the mayor, shall cause a special meeting of the board of aldermen to be called giving at least seven (7) days’ notice of the vacancy and the intent to fill the position.

(c) 
Appointment.
The mayor with the advice and consent of a majority of the remaining members of the board of aldermen shall appoint a successor to the vacant office.
(d) 
Vacancy in office of mayor.
If the vacancy occurs in the office of mayor, nominations of a successor may be made by any member of the board of aldermen and selected with the consent of a majority of the members of the board of aldermen.
(e) 
Term of appointee.
The person appointed to the vacant office shall serve until the next regular municipal election.
(f) 
Qualifications for appointment to office of alderman.
No person shall be appointed to the office of alderman unless they meet the following requirements:
(1) 
18 years of age.
(2) 
Citizen of the United States.
(3) 
A resident of the city for at least one year.
(4) 
Resides in the ward for which he is a candidate.
(5) 
Is current on all city taxes and municipal user fees.
(6) 
No person shall be appointed who has been convicted of or found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony under the laws of the state.
(g) 
Qualifications for appointment to office of mayor.
No person shall be appointed to the office of mayor unless they meet the following requirements:
(1) 
25 years of age.
(2) 
Citizen of the United States.
(3) 
A resident of the city for at least one year.
(4) 
Current on all city taxes and municipal user charges.
(5) 
Has not been convicted of any felony or pled guilty to a felony under the laws of the state.

No member of the board of aldermen or officer of the city shall, in official capacity or under color of his office, knowingly or willfully or corruptly vote or assent to or report in favor of or allow or certify for allowance any claim or demand against the city, which claim or demand shall be on account of or under color of a contract or agreement not authorized by law and the ordinances of the city.

(a) 
Mayor.
The mayor shall receive one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each regular meeting attended and fifteen ($15.00) dollars for each special meeting attended.
(b) 
Aldermen.
Aldermen shall receive fifty ($50.00) dollars for each regular meeting attended and fifteen ($15.00) dollars for each special meeting attended.
