There is hereby adopted by the city, for the purpose of prescribing regulations in a just, equitable and practicable method, to be cumulative with and in addition to any other remedy provided by the building code or otherwise available by law, whereby buildings or structures which from any cause endanger the life, limb, health, morals, property, safety, or welfare of the general public or their occupants may be required to be repaired, vacated or demolished, that certain code and standards known as the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, published by the International Conference of Building Officials, being in particular the 1997 edition thereof, and the whole thereof. One copy of the code has been and is now filed in the city secretary’s office, and the same is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and from the date on which this section shall take effect the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the city.

Wherever the word “jurisdiction” is used in the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, it is referring to the City of Lavon.

Any person, corporation, or association violating any provisions of this article shall be deemed guilty of an offense, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine in accordance with the general penalty provided in section 1.01.009 of this code. Each violation thereof shall be deemed a separate offense, and shall be punished accordingly; provided however, compliance may be further sought through injunctive relief in the district court.
