The office of city marshal in the city shall be dispensed with for such time as the city council shall deem it necessary. The city council shall have the power to confer the duties of said office upon such person or persons as it may appoint.

There is hereby created a police department of the city, at the head of which shall be the chief of police. The chief of police shall be appointed by the city council, and such chief of police shall have supervision and control over his department. The duties of the chief of police and the other officers and personnel of such department shall be as provided by ordinance.

Police officers are authorized to transport city prisoners to the county jail when the offense of such accused prisoner warrants such imprisonment.
