(a) It shall be the duty of the Peace Officers who are assigned by the
Mayor or town council to enforce the traffic laws of the town and
the state vehicle laws applicable to street traffic in the town.
(b) Officers of the town or officers who are assigned by the town council
are hereby authorized to direct traffic by voice, hand, or signal,
in conformance with traffic laws. In the event of a fire or other
emergency, to expedite traffic, or to safeguard pedestrians, peace
officers or fire department officers may direct traffic, as conditions
require notwithstanding the provisions of the traffic laws.
(c) Officers of the fire department, when at the scene of a fire, may
direct or assist the police in directing the traffic in the immediate
vicinity.

(a) It is a class C misdemeanor for any person to do an act forbidden,
fail to perform an act required, or commit an act made an offense
by this chapter.
(b) A person convicted of a misdemeanor for a violation of a provision of this chapter, for which another penalty is not provided, shall be punished as provided for in the general penalty provision found in section
1.01.009 of this code.
