For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
Commercial vehicle.
Every vehicle which is self-propelled and designated, maintained, or used primarily for the transportation of property and has a gross vehicular weight of 7,500 pounds or more, and every trailer with a gross vehicular weight of 7,500 pounds or more.
Local commercial vehicle.
Any commercial vehicle whose origin or destination is within the city limits.
Through commercial vehicle.
Any commercial vehicle whose origin and destination is outside the city limits.
Truck route.
Those streets, avenues, or highways designated as such in section 12.05.005 of this article.

It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a through commercial vehicle upon any street, boulevard, avenue or alley within the limits of the city, except that such commercial vehicle may travel or be operated upon any street, boulevard, or avenue designated as a U.S. or state highway or as a truck route.

(a) 
It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any local commercial vehicle upon any street, boulevard, avenue or alley within the limits of the city, except on a designated U.S. or state highway or a designated truck route.
(b) 
A local commercial vehicle may leave any designated U.S. or state highway or a designated truck route and travel on any street, boulevard, avenue or alley within the limits of the city for the purpose of delivering or providing services, delivering or picking up goods, wares, materials or merchandise, or returning to its established place of business or the home of the local commercial vehicle’s operator, provided that the “home” is a residence owned, rented, or leased by said operator, and the home is located in either a commercially zoned area or an R-1 zoned district.
(c) 
When a local commercial vehicle enters a street, boulevard, avenue or alley as permitted by this section, such vehicle shall enter such street, boulevard, avenue or alley at the intersection nearest the point of pickup or delivery or its established place of business or home and return to the truck route by the nearest route.

The chief of police shall mark the truck routes established by this chapter by the erection of suitable signs clearly identifying the named streets, roads and highways as truck routes.

Every U.S. and state highway in the limits of the city and South Navarro Street, from U.S. 290 to Columbus Street, then west on Columbus Street to the city limits where Columbus Street becomes Lee County Road 208, is designated as a truck route under the terms of this section.
