(a)
It shall be unlawful to fire or discharge within the city limits any gun, pistol or other firearm of any description, including air guns, BB guns and pellet guns.
(b)
This section shall not be construed to prohibit the following:
(1)
Any officer of the law from discharging a firearm in the lawful performance of his duty;
(2)
Any citizen from discharging a firearm when defending person or property;
(3)
The use by workers in the construction business of any mechanism designed to propel nails, bolts, screws, rivets or other fasteners, as long as such mechanism is being used in the manner in which it was intended;
(4)
The discharge of “blanks” during official celebrations or athletic events, when permission is received from the chief of police; and/or
(5)
Gunsmiths and commercial shooting ranges, operating lawfully, from carrying out the normal pursuit of their business.
