The mayor and council hereby declare it to be the purpose and intent of this division to establish a uniform procedure for use in providing for the protection, enhancement, perpetuation, and use of places, districts, sites, buildings, structures, and works, structures, and works of art having a special historical, cultural, or aesthetic interest or value, in accordance with the provisions of this division.

The title of the commission shall be the “San Augustine Historical Preservation Commission.” Commission members shall be appointed by the mayor and city council and will have the authority in recommending landmarks to historic preservation. General policies and procedures will be provided by the city manager.

(a) 
The historic preservation commission shall consist of 7 members who have special interest, experience, and education in history, architecture, or the preservation of history of history sources [sic]. Members shall serve two-year terms, and may by reappointed. Members will not receive a salary.
(b) 
Members of the city historic preservation commission are as follows:
(1) 
Ex-officio/special advisor: Mayor.
(2) 
Attorney: City attorney.
(3) 
City manager.
(4) 
City secretary.
(5) 
Five additional members.
