(a) 
The office of city marshal, as provided for in the general laws of the state, is hereby cancelled, voided and dispensed with in all things, in accordance with V.T.C.A., Local Government Code, section 22.076.
(b) 
All of the duties, powers and obligations of the office of city marshal, as set out, described and contemplated by the laws of the state, are hereby conferred upon a police officer of the city, to be known as and bear the title of chief of police.

The chief of police of the city shall possess the qualifications and fulfill the requirements set out and described in the job description for said office, which shall be set forth in writing by the city council and revised from time to time as circumstances demand or cause to be desirable. The chief of police shall be appointed by the mayor and serve at the pleasure of the mayor and city council, on such terms and conditions as it shall set forth at such remuneration as it shall designate.
