(a)
An arson investigating unit is hereby commissioned by the city.
(b)
The city’s fire marshal is hereby appointed as the head of such arson investigation unit and is further authorized to investigate all incidents suspected of arson. In the performance of his duties he is further authorized to commission deputy fire marshals, all of which officers shall serve as peace officers pursuant to the authority of article 2.12, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, and with city council approval.
