There is hereby created in the city the office of city attorney,
who shall be appointed by the city council for an indefinite term
with the understanding that the city council may discharge the city
attorney at any time without assigning any reason for doing so.

It shall be the duty of the city attorney to prosecute all cases
in the municipal court arising under the ordinances of the city; advise
the officers of the city government and give his opinion upon such
legal matters and questions affecting the interest of the city as
may from time to time be referred to him by the city council; draw
up all contracts for the city and prepare all official bonds and oaths;
and generally represent the city in all actions or suits, either civil
or criminal, in any of the courts of this state, to which the city
may be a party. And it shall further be his duty to attend all regular
meetings of the city council, and all special called sessions of the
city council, and there give such advice as may be demanded or required
therein on legal questions that may arise.

The city council shall fix the salary or compensation of the
city attorney as the city council deems fit and proper.
