Editor’s note–Printed herein is the charter of the City of Denver City, Texas, which was adopted at an election held on April 6, 1985. Apart from minor nonsubstantive changes in style and formatting, the charter is reproduced as it appeared in the 1998 Code of Ordinances. Section numbers were added for organizational purposes. Capitalization, punctuation and grammar have been retained. Obviously misspelled words have been corrected without notation. Material enclosed in brackets has been added for clarification. Amendments to the charter are indicated by a history note following the amended provision. The absence of a history note indicates the material is unchanged from charter provided in the 1998 Code of Ordinances.
PREAMBLE
We the people of the City of Denver City, exercising the powers of home rule granted to us by the Constitution and general laws of the State of Texas, in order to preserve, protect, and guarantee the lawful rights of each individual Denver City citizen, attract able and sincere persons to public service, ensure the proper and efficient expenditure of public funds, provide for the future progress and orderly growth of our City, and to return to Denver City the right of self-government, do hereby ordain, adopt, and establish this Charter of the City of Denver City, Texas.
