The office of recorder of the municipal court of the city shall be filled by appointment made by the city council.

The recorder of the city shall be first appointed for a term running concurrently with the unexpired term of the mayor at the time the appointment is first made. Thereafter the recorder shall be appointed for a term of two years.

The recorder of the city shall be at least 18 years of age and shall be a resident of the state.

Wherever the word “recorder” is used herein it shall be construed to mean the judge of the municipal court of the city.
