Editor’s note–Printed herein is the charter of the City of Mercedes, Texas, which was approved by the voters on September 21, 1971 at an election called pursuant to Ordinance 173 adopted August 17, 1971. Amendments by the following ordinances were incorporated in the charter by the city: Ord. 328 adopted 2/1/77, Ord. 328(a) adopted 3/1/77, Ord. 79-11 adopted 3/6/79, Ord. 84-7 adopted 2/21/84, Ord. 86-3 adopted 2/18/86, Ord. 88-4 adopted 4/5/88, Ord. 92-06 adopted 3/17/92, Ord. 96-07 adopted 4/2/96, and Ord. 2001-22 adopted 9/4/01. The charter printed herein has the amendments adopted through Ordinance 2001-22 consolidated in the text without notation. Subsequent amendments to the charter are indicated by a history note following the amended provision. The absence of a history note indicates the material is unchanged from the consolidated charter. Apart from minor nonsubstantive changes in style and formatting, the charter is reproduced as set forth in the consolidated charter. Capitalization, punctuation and grammar have been retained. Obviously misspelled words have been corrected without notation. Material enclosed in brackets has been added for clarification.
