[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the Township of Weisenberg 8-10-2009 by Ord. No. 09-7. Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department organized and existing in the Township of Weisenberg, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, is hereby designated the officially recognized Fire Department for the Township.
A. 
The Fire Department recognized by the Township is hereby authorized to provide such services to the Township as may be necessary for the protection of property and persons located in the Township which include, but are not limited to, the extinguishments and prevention of loss of life and property from fire, automobile accidents, hazardous materials incidents and other dangerous situations.
B. 
The Fire Department may also provide nonemergency and public service functions such as removing water from property after storms, and assisting in the removal, abatement and prevention of damage or injury to persons or property, whether through natural causes or man-made situations.
C. 
The Fire Department may also conduct and participate in such training activities and drills, either within or outside the Township, as may be deemed necessary by the officers of the Fire Department to maintain proficiency in providing the services.
D. 
The Fire Department may also respond to calls and provide the services to municipalities outside the Township pursuant to any written mutual aid agreement approval by the Township.
In addition to actually participating in the activities of the Fire Department as authorized above, or in going to and returning from any activity, the members of the Fire Department recognized by the Township are also authorized to do the following:
A. 
Engage in any drill, training, ceremony, practice, test or parade when duly called for or authorized by an officer or officers of the Fire Department. If such Fire Department activity is outside of the Northwestern School District, approval by the Supervisors or one Supervisor is required;
B. 
Engage in fundraising activities for the Fire Department, when authorized by an officer or officers of the Fire Department;
C. 
Engage in fire prevention, fire education and other fire related activities and any other duty or activity authorized by any officer of the recognized Fire Department and approved by the Township.
The provisions of this chapter are severable, and the invalidity of any section, subdivision, paragraph, or other part of this chapter shall not affect the validity or effectiveness of the remainder of the ordinance.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances that are inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
The provisions of this chapter shall become effective on the fifth day following enactment.
