(a) Any
animal found in violation of any provision of this chapter or any
animal that is treated in a cruel or inhumane manner may be impounded
by an animal control officer. Any such animal shall be held for at
least five (5) days, except that any dog or cat wearing a current
vaccination tag and/or a city registration tag shall be held for ten
(10) days before any measure of disposition of such animal shall be
taken. Any impounded animal that is found to be vicious or wild may
be immediately and appropriately disposed of provided there is no
evidence that said animal has an owner.
(b) A
reasonable effort will be made by animal control to contact the owner
of any impounded animal that is wearing a current registration tag;
however, the ultimate responsibility for the location of an impounded
animal is that of the owner.
