The elective officers of the town are:
A. 
The mayor;
B. 
Four (4) members of the governing body forming the town council, also known as councilors; and
C. 
The municipal judge.

Any officer elected or appointed to fill any vacant elected town office shall take an oath or affirmation to support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution and laws of the State of New Mexico, and to faithfully perform the duties of said office.

The town council may declare vacant the office of any person who fails, within ten (10) days after he or she has been notified of his or her election or appointment to office, to take the oath of office as required.

Compensation for the mayor, mayor pro tem, and council members is authorized by section 3-10-3, New Mexico Statutes Annotated, 1978, as amended. The mayor and members of the town council who shall be elected to office at the regular municipal election for office to be held on March 3, 1998, and those elected or appointed thereafter, shall be compensated for their services to the municipality as follows:
A. 
The annual compensation of the mayor shall be one hundred sixty percent (160%) of the authorized annual salary of an elected county commissioner of a class B county as provided in section 4-44-4.1 New Mexico Statutes Annotated, as amended.
B. 
The annual compensation of each member of the town council shall be eighty percent (80%) of the authorized annual salary of an elected county commissioner of a class B county as provided in section 4-44-4.1 New Mexico Statutes Annotated, as amended.
C. 
In addition to the above enumerated salaries, compensation for the mayor and council members shall include those benefits, including travel allowances under the Per Diem and Mileage Act, as are afforded other town employees and as may be provided by law, ordinance, or town policy. Compensation shall be prorated and paid on a biweekly basis.
