The Selectmen shall have the powers and responsibilities for the general direction and management of the property and affairs of the town in all matters not otherwise provided for by the Town Charter or this Code.
Except as provided for by law, the Selectmen may draw orders on any and all moneys appropriated for the departments under their control and all appropriations not specifically entrusted to the control of any particular board, committee or person.
The Selectmen shall cause the appearance and answer of the town to be entered and made in all suits brought against the town at law or in equity and in the interest of the town to be defended therein. They shall consider all claims made against the town for damages or breach of contract and may, with the advise of counsel, settle any lawful claim, provided that in no case shall a settlement be so made by a payment from town funds of more than $2,000 without authority from the town.
All conveyances under seal which may hereafter be executed by the town, pursuant to a vote of the town or otherwise, shall be sealed with the Town Seal and subscribed by a majority of the Board of Selectmen, unless otherwise required by law or by vote of the town.
