The purpose of this Chapter is to govern the naming of municipal non-school public facilities and municipal non-school public places as well as K-8 school facilities and K-8 school places. A further purpose of this Chapter is to ensure public participation in the naming of municipal non-school public facilities and places as well as K-8 school facilities and places. This Chapter does not address the naming of roads or streets.
A. 
For the purpose of this Chapter, municipal non-school public facilities and places shall include all non-school public facilities, public lands, public recreation areas, public intersections and other non-school public places.
B. 
For purposes of this Chapter, K-8 school facilities and K-8 school places shall include all K-8 school facilities and lands and other K-8 school places under the general charge and superintendence of the Northborough School Committee.
A. 
For the naming of non-school public facilities and non-school public places, the Board of Selectmen shall appoint a Committee consisting of two members of the Board of Selectmen, and three citizens appointed by the Board of Selectmen after a publicly noticed application and interview process. The Committee shall be responsible for proposing a name(s) to the Board of Selectmen for final approval. The Board of Selectmen shall hold a public hearing on the proposal before voting on the matter in open session.
B. 
For the naming of K-8 school facilities and places, the Northborough School Committee shall appoint a Committee consisting of two members of the Northborough School Committee, the Chairperson or designee of the Board of Selectmen and two citizens appointed by the Northborough School Committee after a publicly noticed application and interview process. The Committee shall be responsible for proposing a name(s) to the Northborough School Committee for final approval. The Northborough School Committee shall hold a public hearing on the proposal before voting on the matter in open session.
