[HISTORY: Derived from Chapter 183, Art. IX, of the prior Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
A.
Numbering will begin starting from an existing road, with the even numbers on the right-hand side of the road and the odd numbers on the left-hand side.
B.
All other roads in the development will have the numbering start at the point of origin.
C.
Numbers will be assigned in increments of four, starting with two for the even numbers and one for the odd numbers.
D.
Where streets cross an intersection, a four-number allowance will be made for the intersection.
E.
Assessors’ maps and zoning bylaws must be referred to, thus ensuring that a number will be available for each potential parcel of land.
A.
On existing streets where it is required to assign a number and it is not possible to assign a number in increments of four, then an increment of two numbers will be permissible.
B.
In the event that the numbering on an existing street is such that the requirements above cannot be met, then the entire street or a portion thereof shall be renumbered to accept any additions.
C.
In existing areas where more than one house has the same number, the said houses will be renumbered, thus eliminating duplication of numbers.
D.
On streets with a cul-de-sac, the numbering will continue around the cul-de-sac, both odd and even numbers, to that parcel which is bifurcated by the center line of the street.
E.
The number assigned, either odd or even, will be determined on the basis of which side has the most frontage from the street center line.
A.
It shall be the responsibility of the Assessors or their designee to assign numbers to all houses either in new developments or on existing streets in accordance with the above policy. Assigned numbers as required by the procedure shall be submitted to:
(1)
Building Inspector.
(2)
Planning Board.
(3)
Board of Selectmen.
(4)
Town Clerk.
(5)
Town Treasurer.
(6)

(7)

(8)

B.
On those occasions when the numbering is completed or revised on existing streets, those persons living at numbered addresses will be notified by the Assessors’ Assistant. Such notice shall indicate the number previously used and the new number assigned to the residence when the number has been revised.
